Yvette Carter originally hails from Philadelphia and obtained her B.A. in Sociology from Temple University. She brings over 10 years of experience to the ADF.
Ms. Carter’s career includes working for several years at Philadelphia’s Freedom Theatre, the oldest African American theater company in Pennsylvania, under the auspices of world-renown Artistic Director Walter Dallas and Managing Director Donald O.H. Brown. During that time she developed an interest in casting theater productions, and this interest led to working for Mike Lemon Casting, C.S.A., where she cast hundreds of commercials, industrials and live projects until 2001. While working at MLC, she cast the ITVS-funded film “China” which was broadcast nationally on PBS the following year. She also worked in the Executive Director’s office of the Philadelphia Mental Health Care Corporation, a not-for-profit social services organization that seeks to improve service opportunities for people who are primarily limited by prolonged mental illness, drug and/or substance abuse. After moving to Los Angeles in 2003, Ms. Carter has worked in the production, legal, and finance departments of several television networks including ABC, NBC, and Showtime. She currently works as a coordinator in the Scheduling Department of FBC.
Ms. Carter is a firm believer in recognizing that it is only through education and example that today’s youth can learn to choose peace over violence.
